What Is the PreACT 9 Secure?<\/h2>\n

The PreACT 9 Secure is the new CPS high school admissions test for 8th graders applying to selective enrollment and choice high schools through GoCPS. Every 8th grader applying to a top Chicago high school will take this test this fall.<\/p>\n

It replaced the HSAT starting fall 2026. It is longer, covers more subjects, and carries the same weight \u2014 your child’s shot at their top school depends on it.<\/p>\n

The PreACT 9 Secure is made by ACT, Inc. \u2014 the same organization behind the ACT your student will take in high school. Same format. Same critical thinking skills. Same four sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science.<\/p>\n

The Critical Thinking Child offers live virtual PreACT 9 Secure prep for 8th graders nationwide. Our small group courses combine expert certified instruction with the 24\/7 CTC AI Study Coach so your student is prepared from every angle.<\/p>\n

How CPS Calculates Admission Points<\/strong><\/p>\n

High school selections for points-based programs are determined by a total of 640 points:<\/p>\n

HSAT \/ PreACT 9 Secure Score \u2014 320 points (50%)<\/strong>
Your child’s PreACT 9 Secure composite score (1\u201332) is multiplied by 10. A score of 32 earns the maximum 320 points.<\/p>\n

7th Grade GPA \u2014 320 points (50%)<\/strong>
Your child’s final 7th grade GPA is multiplied by 80. A 4.0 GPA earns the maximum 320 points (4.0 \u00d7 80 = 320).<\/p>\n
